Great read.
Coconut oil and it's associated medium chain fatty acids are not your ordinary saturated fats. Far from contributing to sneaky, degenerative conditions, they may prevent and even reverse all sorts of things from infections to viruses. And allergies. And skin conditions. And all sorts of things. And there is some suggestion that it is particularly beneficial for female hormones as well as subclinical hypothyroid (are you cold, gaining weight, thinning and brittle hair and nails, tired, but your T3 and T4 levels always come back in the normal range?).
In addition, learn how soybean oil and polyunsaturated fats may be quite detrimental to your health. And how modern French fries fried in soybean oil may be worse for you than the way French fries used to be fried (the potatoes absorb twice as much of the soybean oil than if the potatoes had been fried in saturated fat).
The book is quite informative, the writing style very easy, and you'll learn some interesting information from it. However, I had two problems with the book. The first was that the author stepped over the line from informational to...well...zealotry a handful of times. That tends not to appeal to me. The other was that I would have liked to see more specific information regarding biochemical mechanism, rather than the broad suggestion that coconut oil may help with ______. But these are minor quibbles and I still gave the book five stars.
