Editorial Review:

Product DescriptionWhen the word cheese is mentioned, most of us immediately think of France. We can't help it; it's a knee-jerk reaction. As excellent as are the hundreds of cheeses that originate from all corners of the globe, France is always the first country the comes to mind when discussing cheesemaking. Our French Cheese Assortment captures a good bit of French cheese culture with the four cheeses listed below. One is of the 'stinky' variety, one is a triple-crème, one is a chèvre, and one is a mountain cheese from the Alps. Buche Chevre: This classic French goat cheese is slightly aged, giving it a lot of character. Formed in the shape of a log (Buche is French for log), enjoy this cheese on salads, as a snack, or with fruit for dessert. Chaource: This decadent triple-creme is delicious at any stage of ripeness and has a slight mushroom scent with a rich, creamy flavor. Pont l'Eveque: This aromatic cheese from Normandy has a creamy, slightly spicy flavor. Pont l'Eveque has an edible reddish crust with a creamy, pale interior. It is an ancient cheese and truly one of the world's great ones. Gruyère de Comté: Created by local villagers in alpine dairies called 'Fruiteries', its milk comes only from Montbeliarde and Tachete de L'est cows. Each 70+ pound wheel of Comté is aged for at least six months, resulting in a sweet and nutty masterpiece!

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Not a good gift
For one thing, the packaging is totally unsuitable for gift giving. You get plastic wrapped cheeses in a styrofoam cooler box. We had to go out and buy baskets to make a suitable gift.

The French assortment STINKS!!! By the time we got to my mother's house the whole car smelled like dirty feet. It would have been nice if some information were provided that gives you an idea of what each cheese is like, e.g. strong or mild, stinky or not stinky, firm or soft. Maybe some information about the cheese's origin and a few serving suggestions. You get nothing but the cheese. Since iGourmet seems to pride itself on the fact that "you never heard of most of them" you would think they would provide some more detail.

What I thought would be a fantastic gift for a cheese lover and Francophile turned out to be a big flop.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I Love French Cheese!
As much as my family and I love cheese from Italy and Spain, we love French cheese more. France is a country that produces more than 100 cheeses, so it must have been difficult to choose only four for this assortment, but in my opinion, four of the very best were chosen.

We are all watching our weight at my house, so we eat a lot of salads. While cheese is definitely not a "diet food," a little in a salad goes a long way, especially when you're using Buche Chevre. My children love it on crackers as well.

My wife and I reserved the chaource and the epoisses for a "wine and cheese" party, but believe me, they are so wonderful and so special, you'll be tempted to eat them anytime, party or not.

The Gruyère de Comté is just so special I can't really find words to describe it. It's rich. It's creamy. It's delectable. We often eat it as a dessert cheese. Yes, it's really that good!

If you're looking for a special gift, you can't go wrong with this French Cheese Assortment. These are four of the finest cheese France has ever produced.

The proposed acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe is not a done deal. Both companies are under the scrutiny of the SEC, and it must also be approved by stockholders. While Macromedia/Adobe gives this process three to nine months, some industry analysts feel that is being overly optimistic. But assuming that all is goes as planned, Macromedia will cease to exist. Everything will be in the Adobe name and with the Adobe interface.

Delta has mid-air reversal on filtering Web content: Delta said it wouldn't filter its in-flight Internet system (not yet launched), but now says it will have a short list of inappropriate sites that no one would disagree were inappropriate. That might work. While filtering is impossible to enforce on a broad scale, choosing a small list of sites the airline feels are off limits, that might balance some basic interests.

Wi-Fi attraction for students: Nearly half of students surveyed would prefer Wi-Fi over beer at school. Three-quarters think Wi-Fi makes helps them get better grades. Take that, Lakehead University!

MetroFi antennas won't fall like autumn leaves: Portland, Ore., must wait until April 2009 to declare MetroFi's Wi-Fi nodes abandoned and take them down. While MetroFi gave the city a deposit, it will cost the Oregon metropolis $36,000 of its own cash to remove them, although the city's wireless go-to guy says they'll try to recover cash from MetroFi. To my knowledge, MetroFi has not filed for bankruptcy, even though the company no longer has working phone lines and hasn't returned comments.

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?
